Day 1 & 2 - Negombo

Arrival in Colombo International Airport and meet with our driver. You will be then transferred to Negombo, just 20 minutes’ drive away from Colombo International Airport. You will be staying in beach front resort in Negombo, very closer to restaurants and pubs. You can spend the rest of the day at leisure chilling out by the pool or by the beach before starting your family Adventure Holidays in Sri Lanka.

Day 2 & 3 - Habarana

To begin your family adventure in Sri Lanka, after a two day of relaxing time in Negombo, we now move to Habarana, 4 hours drive and you are in the heart of the cultural triangle of Sri Lanka. A two nights stay in a Tree House Chalet in small eco lodge in Habarana. Upon arriving in Habarana, spend one or two relaxing hours by the pool and witness various birds and squirrels who inhabits the trees in the garden. Late afternoon, visit Sigiriya Rock Fortress in time for sunset. Sigiriya fortress complex includes miscellany of a ruined palace, surrounded by a widespread network of fortifications, enormous gardens, ponds, canals and fountains. Since 3th century BC the rocky plateau of Sigiriya served as a monastery. In the second half of the 5th century king Kasyapa decided to construct a royal residence here.

Day two will be an early start as we visit Polonnruwa ruins. A specialist guide will meet you at the Polonnaruwa cultural site to do a guided tour of Monkeys of Sri Lanka where you will be able to observe the habitat of cheeky Monkeys. The specialist guide will explain you about three types of Monkeys namely Toque Macaques, Grey Langurs and Purple Face Langurs. This is an interesting experience for children as they get to see these Monkeys having a family time playing cuddling and being cheeky over other Monkeys.

After observing the Monkey habitat, you then explore the glory of the bygone era which could be found in the archaeological treasures in Polonnaruwa that still give a good idea of how the city looked in its glory days. You'll find the archaeological park a delight to explore, with hundreds of ancient structures – tombs and temples, statues and stupas. The afternoon is you are free to be on your own at the hotel, chilling out by the pool or reading your favourite book. These two nights in Habarana during your family adventure holiday in Sri Lanka, is mixed experience of wildlife and history.

Day 4 & 5 - Kandy

After a good breakfast to start the day, proceed to Kandy which is three hours drive and, on the way, visit Dambulla Cave Temple which is a very ancient temple, a World Heritage site. If you wish to explore Kandy town and Temple of Tooth Relic, we could proceed that way too but if not, we could take a countryside road to the Eco Lodge you will be staying for the next two nights which is little away from Kandy town.

On day two in Kandy, a specialist village guide will take you to explore a rural village to interact with the village folks, walk in the rice fields and also to visit Kandyan home gardens where villagers grow spices. The walk begins from the eco lodge and is through quaint villages with their Kandyan Forest Gardens where the villagers go about their daily chores at their own pace. You will be invited to visit their houses and see, for example, how they make treacle and jaggery (syrup and sugar blocks made from the sap of a palm tree). You will be given a "Botany lesson" by our trained Guide in his own English of the various trees you will see on the way, such as cloves, pepper, nutmeg, coffee, cocoa, jack, bread-fruit, arecanut, mangosteen, mango, passion-fruit, rambuttan, banana, papaya etc. Nearer to the river are several rice-fields, still worked by water-buffaloes.

After about 2 hours of walking, you will be arriving at a bathing spot in a river set in a scenic place where you would be able to take a swim or dip with the villagers. After a refreshing bath, we serve you a freshly cooked picnic lunch by the river.

Afternoon is for you to be at relax, reading a book or chit chat with the local village staff of the Eco Lodge or even exploring the garden of Eco Lodge. Two nights in this off the beaten path Eco Lodge in Kandy, is a very educational chapter for the kids during their family holiday in Sri Lanka.

Day 6 & 7 - Ella

After breakfast, take a scenic train journey to Ella, one of the most scenic train journeys of the world. Kandy to Ella train journey takes approximately seven hours but you will be treated for excitement and variety during every part of the journey and you will never feel it is a too long journey. Kandy to Ella train journey is not to be missed during your family holiday in Sri Lanka.

On day two in Ella, you could spend a leisurely morning chilling out by the pool at the small hotel you will be staying in Ella for two nights and letting the afternoon to take you to explore 9 Arch Bridge and trek to Little Adam’s Peak, two of Ella’s star attractions and no visit to Ella is complete without these.

Day 8 - Udawalawe

After breakfast you will be transferred to Udawalawe, another important wildlife sanctuary which is home for many wild Elephants. It is 2 hours’ drive approximately and before checking in to the small safari lodge you will be staying on this night, pay a visit to Udawalawe Elephant Transit Home to see how orphaned baby Elephants being fed with milk. Afternoon is for you to have a relaxing time by the pool.

Day 9, 10 & 11 - Bentota

Wake up early morning and depart for five hours guided safari deep in to Udawalawe National Park to see wild Elephants. There can be chances of seeing the Leopard or two as we go deep in to the park but that is something rare. Let’s see how lucky you are. Udawalawe National Park is a very good place for bird watching too. Inside the park, you will be served a cooked picnic lunch.

After an exciting safari, you will be then transferred to Bentota, four hours’ drive approximately to begin the coastal part of your family holiday in Sri Lanka. In Bentota you will be staying three nights in a small authentic Guest House by the beach and you have two full days to relax and kids to play by the beach.

You could also visit a Turtle conservation centre to learn about the Sea Turtles and then take a boat trip in Bentota river to explore the mangroves.

Day 18 - Departure

Your family tour in Sri Lanka comes to an end, transfer to Colombo International Airport for the flight back home. Or we could offer you an extension to Maldives for couple of days be it a relaxing beach getaway or snorkeling and diving adventure in Maldives.
