The Knuckles Mountain Range a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of Sri Lanka’s major eco tourism destinations is one of the finest and certainly a very popular place to hike in Sri Lanka. It is one of the most scenic locations as well as the most rugged making it a rather tough hiking trail. Accompanied by an experienced guide, get ready for an amazing experience as you approach the trailhead to this exceptional bio-diversity hotspot of national and international importance, named the Knuckles National Heritage and Wilderness Area. Be one with this unique forest reserve that’s inhabited by many endemic and endangered species of fauna and flora. The trail rambles past quaint villages, cascading waterfalls, rice fields, domestic spice gardens, tea plantations and dense forest patches. While ascending, notice the changing landscape from grasslands, pygmy forests to cloud forests. The Cloud Forest is an evergreen jungle that houses many endemic species of fauna and flora. It is said to contain over 1000 species of plants, 128 species of birds, 31 species of mammals, 20 species of amphibians and 53 species of reptiles. This is a full day hike, accompanied by a knowledgeable and experienced guide who speaks English. It will also include refreshments and picnic lunch.
