
Nawalapitiya
Nawalapitiya is a town in the hill country of Sri Lanka and birth place of the renowned Tamil film actor and politician M. G. Ramachandran (Maruthur Gopala Ramachandra Menon). It is in the Kandy administrative district, 38 kilometers away from Kandy. The town is near the Mahaweli Ganga. Nawalapitiya is the main town of the Nawalapitiya electorate and is one of the two municipal councils in the Kandy District. Nawalapitiya holds a special place in locomotive transportation in Sri Lanka since it is one of the three controllers in the same. Nawalapitiya Railway station is the second longest station in Sri Lanka, The first one is Nanu-oya.
