But what if we tell you that there is a place that offers warm easy quietness, punctuated briefly only by a bird in song and the rustling of trees? Where crisp cool air scented with the aroma of cypress and Eucalyptus takes the place of plumes of polluted air? And that a brightly attired tea-plucker carrying her day's work on strong shoulders is the only rush-hour traffic you'll see.
Tucked away 4,500 feet above sea level in the mountain-dotted Haputale – home to some of the country's most exquisite views all the way from the breathtaking peaks in the central province to the turquoise-dappled waters of the southern province – is our secret.
Once a colonial-style planter's abode, the warmly inviting Sherwood Tea Plantation exudes an air of soothing comfort while whispering of simpler times and of an unhurried pace. Of merry conversations and shared secrets as families sit down together for dinner. Outside, the sprawling lush-green garden bursting with a riot of flowers, birds, and butterflies adds to the serenity, begging to be explored in an unhurried quiet evening stroll. Or simply sink into a planter's chair with a cup of Ceylon's finest tea to enjoy the breathtaking view of a horizon dotted with majestic mountain peaks framed by soft grey-white clouds.
Nowhere else to be and nothing else to do – just you, a sweetly pungent cool crisp air, the mountains above and the earth in her cloak of luminous green tea leaves below, and a feeling of all's right with the world, once more.
AccommodationThe bungalow has four stylishly-designed spacious bedrooms - a triple room, two double rooms and one single room, which can house between 8-10 guests. Two bedrooms have four-poster beds and mosquito nets are available in all rooms. There are three bathrooms (of which 2 have bath tubs) with hot/cold water.
DiningOur in-house butler and cook serve up sumptuous fare, be it traditional Sri Lankan dishes or western cuisine. Meals are offered a la carte.
