The Palms Hotel - Beruwala Sri Lanka

Overview of The Palms Hotel - Beruwala

Make your way to a sun-dappled beach through lotus-filled ponds and a lush green blanket of gently swaying palms. Watch the waves dance gently by and let yourself be lulled to sleep as nature, in her perfect harmony, croons soft melodies of distant birds resplendent under brilliant blue skies and of waves softly lapping the shore. Open your eyes only long enough to contemplate the heady sight of nothing but miles of beach stretching far, far out. Bliss? It’s a way of life at The Palms in the sunny south coast of Sri Lanka – our teardrop-shaped paradise isle or as the Persians aptly called us in days gone by, “Serendip”.

Exuding understated elegance, The Palms is cocooned in a sprawling sun-bathed 8 acres on the ‘Golden Mile’ stretch of reef-engulfed, honey hued beach in the coastal city of Beruwala. Simply strolling through the hotel soothes the weary traveller as sweeping green foliage gently fans all its walkways, making the journey that much sweeter. The Palms’ distinctive design also means that the hotel’s rooms all open out to a brilliant turquoise-tinged sea.

For the sun worshipper in you, soak in the golden rays of paradise in the comfort of your own room terrace, or try a lounger by the pool as it calls out enticingly for a relaxing dip. Our mini-island bar also stands ready nearby, as you enjoy the lazy evening breeze in quiet contentment. For our guests who would love a little pampering, let the cares and worries of everyday living glide easily off your shoulders at the hotel’s Ayurvedic Centre as a luxurious array of massages, healing baths and curative wraps whisper of exquisite bliss and dreamlike escape. It’s a hard life isn’t it?

The Palms, a classically elegant hotel. Come discover Serendip the way she is meant to be – The Palms way.

Beruwala, home to The Palms, is one of Sri Lanka's best locations for water sports including wind surfing, parasailing, water skiing, water scooter rides, and river cruising. It also has facilities for deep-sea fishing, and wreck and reef diving.

In the early mornings in Beruwala, the bright harbour with over 400 colourful boats is an interesting place to watch the fishermen tirelessly unload their hard-earned catch. For those guests who would like to soak in the history and rich ambiance of Beruwala, the hotel can help as you plan a trip to the Kande Vihare Buddhist temple, which houses one of the isle's tallest Buddha statues (160.5 feet), and the Sri Kalyanarama Maha Viharaya whose magnificent ancient marble Buddha statue will leave you in awe.

Guests can plan day trips, too, down the coast to Galle with a trove of treasure sites on the way. Visit the famous Brief Garden and Lunuganga, masterpieces of the world-renowned architect Geoffrey Bawa. The Sea Turtle Conservatory awaits you in Kosgoda, while the small town of Ambalangoda is famous for its masks and puppets. The Moonstone Mine in Meetiyagoda is one of the very few places in the world where blue gleaming moonstones are found and, if you need a change in scenery, a glass-bottom boat ride awaits on you on the coral reef at Hikkaduwa. Thrill seekers can also go diving in the Black Coral Gardens, beyond the reef in deeper waters or explore any of the several shipwrecks around Hikkaduwa. When you reach your destination of Galle, watch history unfold as you visit the Dutch Fort, a UNESCO-declared World Heritage Site.

Another day trip could be to the Sinharaja Forest Reserve - one of the island's least disturbed and biologically unique lowland rain forests. The forest covers an extent of approximately 11,187 hectares from east to west and is recognized by UNESCO as part of its International Network of Biosphere Reserves. It was declared a National Wilderness Area in 1988 and a World Heritage Site in 1989.

Wildlife enthusiasts take heed - Approximately 60 minute drive to Mirissa, famous for spotting spinner, striped, bottlenose, and spotted dolphins as well as the magnificent blue and sperm whales.
