OverviewMas Villa, an exquisite villa nestled in the historic Kotmale Valley, enjoys one of the most sublime views in the hill country. Approximately four hours drive from Colombo, Mas Villa is centrally located between the two hill country giants of Kandy and Nuwara Eliya. Situated amidst terraced paddy fields and verdant mountain ranges filled with jungles and ancient temples, this five bedroom colonial residence exudes a personal charm within a setting of refined elegance.
Mas Villa is steeped in its own enthralling history. The ancestral house of a wealthy Kandian family, its Granery, the ATUWA, once supplied food for the rebels who orchestrated a rebellion against the British in 1848. It was burnt down by the British that year but has been carefully restored.
In the more recent past, the house has been better known for being the birth place, childhood home and resting place of the family's best known scion, the late Gamini Dissanayake. This illustrious political leader and former presidential candidate was instrumental in building the Kotmale Hydro Power Plant facility which the house is situated close by. At one time, this reservoir and, the other four built under the accelerated Mahaweli Project in the 1980s, supplied more than one half of the country's energy requirements.
A veranda with a view to behold; an elegant sitting room that opens into a mesmerizing courtyard; a casual yet vibrant TV/Games room; a magnificent dining room that takes on an ethereal feel when lit up by dozens of candelabra in the evening…Each common room will beguile you with its unique charm.
AccommodationSanderiana, Heliconia, Calathea and Dracaena are the three deluxe double rooms and one superior double room located on the ground floor. Named after the acres of foliage that surrounds the house, the rooms decorated in shades of cream, burgundy and brown offer guests quiet luxury.
The majestic Cordyline Suite that encompasses the entire first floor with a 20 ft high ceiling, wooden floorboards, a Jacuzzi, a separate shower room and numerous French windows overlooking the panoramic valley is indeed a room with a view.
DiningOver 40 feet long, the stately dining room opens to the beautiful valley. In the night, the dining room takes on an ethereal feel when lit up by dozens of candles perched on wrought iron candelabra that surround the walls of the room. Food is truly “one of life's little pleasures” at Mas Villa.
