Hideaway - Arugambay Sri Lanka

Overview of Hideaway - Arugambay

Hideaway is now opening its doors to the discerning international traveler seeking a nurturing yet adventurous, personalized holiday.

Secluded in a shady grove on the landward side of Arugambay, Hideaway’s main guesthouse and white-washed, thatch-roofed cabins are tucked into an unspoiled area of Sri Lanka’s spectacular east coast.

Once a well-kept secret among globetrotting surfers, there are more than a dozen world-class surf sites within a twenty-mile radius of this unusual retreat. Across the road, less than 100 meters from Hideaway’s tranquil gardens, is a sweeping white-sand swimming and surfing beach.

Hideaway is uniquely situated near the Eden-like Lahugala Elephant Sanctuary, and the Kumana Bird Sanctuary, site of one the most spectacular avian migrations in the southern hemisphere. Exquisitely preserved Buddhist and Hindu sacred archaeological sites are scattered within a short hike or drive of the Hideaway grounds. Our staff will be happy to arrange excursions to these and other extraordinary destinations in the region. Airport transfers, car rentals, drivers, local tour guides and many other services are also available for the asking.

Lush tropical gardens create an ambiance of privacy and serenity, offering a welcome refuge for the world-weary traveler in need of a restorative getaway. From the whimsical stone Ganesh - a survivor of the 2004 tsunami - to the simply but elegantly appointed rooms and cabins, Hideaway combines rustic charm with a modern sensitivity to the natural environment. With sustainability at the forefront of our mission, our desire is for you to have an unforgettable experience and to return time and time again.

Lying directly in line with Colombo which is on the West Coast, “Hideaway” is on the East coast bordering the Kumana National Reserve. With recent road development completed, the roads leading to Arugambay are vastly improved and the journey would now take around 8 hours with regular refreshment stops along the way.
