Overview of Ashburnham Tea Estate Bungalow in Knuckles, off KandyThe House dates back to the 1930's and is the original Principal Planter’s bungalow for a much larger estate. At 2,600 feet above sea level it is in the foothills of the Knuckles Mountains; this is the heart of tea country.
There are six double bedrooms, each with its own character. The front terrace allows for the enjoyment of a fine panorama, where often you can witness a stunning sunset. There’s also a swimming pool and tennis court.
The House is available to rent as a full unit, or by room. All cooking is supervised by Carol Royce, who is in charge of the House, and who will ensure that you have the most delightful stay with us.
Estate of Ashburnham Tea Estate BungalowTrails around the estate make for charming walks. Down the primary path you will come to the two stunning waterfalls, both on the property, each of which can be swum by and under, the ultimate power shower experience.
And for the more daring there’s a natural water slide over smooth rocks into a deep pool.
In the area there are many beautiful walks on the neighbouring government estates, including up to One Tree Hill, or to the beautiful local reservoir, called Sembawatta Lake.
There is much to explore, and children often find the place a true “Swallows and Amazons” experience.
Half an hour walk and you are in the local village Elkaduwa where you can stop for a cup of tea and cake at the tea shop that is run by the estate. Do ask for other recommended routes.
Further afield, you can drive higher into the Knuckles mountains. Or drop down to the plains where you can reach Sigiriya within two hours.
