The peaceful haven of Jetwing Warwick Gardens is located at an elevation of 5782 feet (app. 1606 meters) above sea level in the farm town of Ambewela a few miles away from the upcountry capital of Nuwara Eliya. Holidays in this mountain resort town is highly popular with both locals and tourists who come in search of its cooler climes.

Around 170km from the International airport in Katunayake, the journey to Nuwara Eliya is a 5-6 hour drive through breathtaking landscape. Built by the British it sits in a high valley flanked by mountain ranges. The cool weather and lush slopes being reminiscent of the ‘home country’ earned it the name ‘little England’ and was created likewise with official buildings and residences built to the style of that era. With many remaining to this day, the town continues to be a living legacy to a time passed by.

The sumptuous décor of the past greets you at every turn, from the entrance hall to the graceful drawing room, the elegant dining room and the delightfully old world library. The five bedrooms are carefully reproduced masterpieces that pay homage to the comforts of a bygone era. The colours are dark and subdued; old oak and walnut abounds. Heavy drapes keep out the chills and a hearty log fire crackles in support.

Adorned in white the ‘Netherleigh’ Room hosts pristine simplicity; the plush master bedroom ‘Warwick’ boasts a magnificent view and you have three other deluxe rooms – Preamer, Glenoch and Oakleigh, to choose from too. All taking you back to the wonders of yesterday but spoiling you with the best of modern comforts too.

Deluxe Rooms
Jetwing Warwick Gardens is one of the most authentically restored colonial style holiday bungalows in Nuwara Eliya and the three deluxe rooms each offer you a distinctly different mood to make your stay even more special. The bathrooms with hot/cold water are also exceptional with antique cast iron bath tubs just perfect for a warm luxurious soak.

Preamer, the twin deluxe room boasts exquisite 130 year old Edwardian furniture in antique walnut wood elegantly offset by dark red hued walls and a blazing fireplace to keep it warm and cosy.

Glenoch is the beautifully appointed double room upstairs with a magnificent antique king sized four poster bed and splendid views of the valley below to match.

Oakleigh the downstairs deluxe room is also furnished in old world grandeur with a king sized double bed and fine furniture to match. Although sporting the fineries of a century gone by, all our deluxe rooms offer you every comfort and amenity from the 21st century to complete your stay too.

The White Room
The graceful beauty of a time gone by and the indulgent comforts of today are elegantly fused to perfection at the White Room at Jetwing Warwick Gardens, an artfully recreated colonial bungalow in Nuwara Eliya. A specially created hideaway within this Edwardian residence, the White Room has a separate entrance artfully concealed by a huge tapestry and candle lit to add to its romantic ambience – the perfect choice for a honeymoon in the hills.

Also called Netherleigh it is duly adorned from floor to ceiling in soft shades of white with exquisite white furniture and fittings. A huge mirror sits above the bed giving the room an even more spacious look. The bathroom too is beautifully designed in the colonial style with an antique bath yet with hot/cold water.

A separate living area offers a two angled view of mountain vistas and valleys below, ideal to enjoy a leisurely breakfast on a cold misty morning.

The Master Bedroom

Here, the beauty of indoors is flawlessly complemented by the most magnificent views that beckon you to stare out of the windows mesmerized by their grandeur. The extended seating area with its bay window gives an unbroken 180 degree view of the entire Uva Basin – high mountains and deep valleys far, far below. The strategically placed sofa tempts you to sit there for hours at end.

But then, the views are equally magnificent from the vast bathroom with its cast iron bath tub. Take a long leisurely soak in its luxurious depths and you can soak up the views while doing so too – a wonderful indulgence that might go even better with a glass of wine from the cellar perhaps. Here, the old colonial custom of having resident cooks or ‘Appu’ is still continued and every meal is prepared with utmost devotion by these culinary craftsmen exactly as their predecessors did for their masters centuries ago.

Good old fashioned plantation cooking has always used fresh home grown ingredients – and we continue this tradition to this day. Vegetables fresh from our garden, eggs and milk from our farm, all of which, you can visit and even help to bring ‘home’ to turn into the most delightful dishes you can enjoy. The menu of course, is yours to dictate – Just state your choice, Western or Eastern style and it will be done to perfection.

You can take your meals at the beautifully furnished dining room, or choose anywhere else you prefer – indoors or out. Many signature dining experiences are yours too: a romantic garden BBQ, a traditional English breakfast on the lawn – or in bed if you wish so.
