MINNERIYA NATIONAL PARK consists of mixed evergreen forest and scrub areas and is home to favourites such as sambar deer, leopards and elephants.  However the central feature of the park is the ancient Minneriya Tank (built in 3rd century AD by King Mahasena).  During the dry season (June to September), this tank is an incredible place to observe the elephants who come to bathe and graze, as well as the huge flocks of birds (cormorants and painted storks to name but a few) that come to fish in the shallow waters.

Overview
The Srilankan Expedition Safari Camp in Minneriya is situated at the border of the park, with a wonderful forest boundary atmosphere, which ensures you're right in the heart of nature.  Forget any ideas about cramped tents and sitting on the ground for mealtimes – this is camping in style! 

The site is set up prior to your arrival, with everything from the kitchen sink, chairs and tables, toilets, showers and cold beer being transported in.  In the evening you can enjoy a hearty barbecue meal in a magical setting – the whole area is lit up with traditional flame torches and a roaring campfire.
