Accommodation of OZO - Colombo

Enjoy an early breakfast at EAT2GO and grab a ‘tuk tuk’ to the Galle Face Green, where you can walk the length of this spectacular open space alongside the Indian Ocean. Be sure to try some “achcharu” (fruits marinated in various spices) from the colourful street carts and walk along the Neo-baroque style, old Parliament Building, built during the British colonial era to house the Legislative Council of Ceylon.

Keep walking down to the 1950’s lighthouse overlooking the Colombo Port along Chaithya Road to complete your visit. Do try thambili (king coconut) which is sure to quench your thirst, before noon.

Walking back towards Marine Drive, you can stop into the new and exciting shopping precinct at the Dutch Hospital, serving as the gateway to the old fort, with classic favourite outlets such as Odel and Barefoot. On the way you will spot the Ceylinco car park, where the prison cell that held the last King of Ceylon in 1815 stands like a lonely stupa. Enjoy lunch at the Ministry of Crab in the Dutch Hospital and maybe if you are lucky you will spot the owner, cricket legend Kumar Sangakkara. Refresh yourself with a coffee at Harpo’s Café before leaving.

After being refreshed, armed and ready for action, head for Pettah and more specifically, the Dutch Period Museum, which houses several artifacts and memorials from the Dutch era. Walking along the side of the Grand Oriental Hotel you can see the oldest building in the area, St. Peter’s Church and continue on to Chatham Street, famous for its classic British Colonial architecture. Then walk to the Pettah main market, a bazaar that is fondly known for its back and forth bargaining style of shopping.

End the day with a sumptuous dinner at EAT Restaurant whilst enjoying the amazing views of Marine Drive and Colombo.
