Holiday Bungalows Rentals for Residents

Firs - Nuwara Eliya Sri Lanka

Overview of Firs - Nuwara Eliya

Offering connoisseur luxury and a wealth of facilities, The Firs is an ideal holiday destination located in the midst of the glorious Sri Lankan hill country. This heritage bungalow which dates back to over a hundred years ago was once the holiday home of the country's first prime minister, Hon. D. S. Senanayake, and has been conceptualised to reflect the British Colonial era, offering guests a unique, one-of-a-kind experience.

‘The Firs’ is an authentic Sri Lankan up-market Heritage Boutique Bungalow which was originally built over a century ago by Philip Freudenberg - Ceylon’s first International Counsel General for Germany. It later became the holiday home of Hon. D. S. Senanayake, Sri Lanka’s first Prime Minister, who visited it quite often in pursuance of golf, bridge-playing and photography. Ownership of the bungalow then passed on to his two sons Dudley and Robert Senanayake and the bungalow has remained with the family for over 100 years to date.

Beckoning historical value, The Firs has been conceptualized according to the British Colonial era with the intention of providing the same experience during the British Monarchy. After continuous upgrades, it now follows the very same concept, ensuring that every aspect of the property exudes luxury to reflect the unique spirit and soul of its location, providing guests a one-of-a-kind experience.

Located in Nuwara Eliya aloft a hillock overlooking Lake Gregory, The Firs offers breathtaking vistas of the surrounding tea estates and greenery. The hotel is ideally located within an hour of some of the most picturesque sights and historical attractions of the hill country - the Hakgala Botanical Gardens, Queen Victoria Park, as well as the Horton Plains National Park.

Nuwara Eliya is also commonly known as "Little England" since the British had once tried to turn it into a typical English village; evidence of this can be seen in the English-style lawns and gardens that are still being maintained by private homes. With the essence of British colonial style living clearly evident, visitors to the city will be fascinated by the nostalgia of bygone days.
