Overview Boulder Garden Boutique Hotel
Boulder Garden is a quite remarkable hotel, lovingly designed around a crop of gigantic black boulders 20 minutes from the entrance to Sinharaja rainforest in south-west Sri Lanka. Sinharajs is UESCO protected and is the country’s last viable area of tropical rain forest, a haven of rare trees, birdlife, insects and bat-filled caves. Boulder Gardens (like all four Sinharajah properties) lies close to the northern entrance at Wadakale on the Kalawana to Ratwana, and is most naturally reached from either Ratnapaura or the hill country. It is also a manageable two-hour journey from the west-coast resort of Bentota.
Accommodation in Boulder Garden Boutique Hotel
Eight twin (2 rooms) and double-bedded suites spread around the surrounding boulders. Each has a private balcony/terrace, dehumidifier and mosquito net (on request).
- Deluxe Suites (Hornfell & Basalt)
Large split level open-plan suites with windows offering views over the forest. Luxury king sized beds and built in wardrobes. Rock face walls coupled with natural furnishings. A sitting area includes coffee/tea making facilities and a satellite TV.
The fully tiled ‘Basalt’ bathroom with luxury Jacuzzi bath and toiletries offers memorable views through the shoulder height windows. Hornfell’s views can be enjoyed from the private terrace. These suites are ideal for honeymooners or ‘old romantics’.
- Standard Suites (Flint, Tufa, Shell, Skarn, Schist, Gabbro)
Slightly smaller suites (2 twins, 4 doubles), similar level of luxuries and elegant bathroom with shower only.
The views are less dramatic but still picturesque.
The tap water is from a natural spring source but bottled water is complementary in rooms. The water tower is solar powered so an early bath/shower is recommended to ensure piping hot water
- Cave Rooms
The natural caves have been equipped with Western toilets and an outdoor shower should guests wish to experience life at one with nature. Mattresses are placed on raised platforms but the caves are open and the occasional wild boar/snake/fox may pay you a visit.
